• Acupuncture.
Acupuncture is a technique of inserting hair-like, fine needles into known
"acupuncture points" along "meridians". The intentions behind such treatments
are those of balancing and tonifying the flow of Qi or vital energy throughout
the physical, emotional and spiritual bodies.
Generally, there is minimal sensation. This is due to the extreme fineness of
the needle, the sharpness of its point, and the dexterity of the practitioner in
inserting it swiftly though the skin. Once the needle is in place, a sensation
of a dull ache, a light electric current circulation along the treated limb, to
a nice heat may be felt.
The sensation varies according to the body's constitution and the nature of the
ailment or the pain. Some people don't feel anything. This sensation is always
within bearable limits and is considered a sign that the acupuncture vessels are
opening up to the flow of Qi and that healing is imminent.
The practice of acupuncture is based on the meridian theory in which qi
(pronounced chee) or vital energy, is believed to travel through precise
pathways or meridians. There are twelve major meridians, each connected to a
particular organ, plus eight special or "extra" meridians. There are also
innumerable smaller meridians throughout the body.
The meridians connect the organs to each other and connect the interior of the
body to the exterior. They actually form a sort of grid or road map of the
entire bodily system.

Aromatherapy Massage.
Historically aromatherapy has been used for thousands of years for healing and
spiritual rituals. Aromatherapy and its various uses was a sacred practice in
most traditional cultures including the Persian, Hebrew, Mayan, Greek, Egyptian
and Chinese.
Today, aromatherapy is a very active movement in Europe,
where it is now a recognized medicine reimbursed by medical insurance.
Plants from all over the world contain useful essential oils. These highly
volatile oily substances to which the plant owes its perfume and flavour, are
present between the cells and act as plant hormones, regulators, and catalysts.
They may be considered as representing the vital elements or life force within
the plant.
Extraction methods are of utmost importance with purity being imperative in
order to obtain good therapeutic results.
Aromatherapy requires an extremely high quality of essential oils. Synthetic
substances cannot replace the real product. There are hundreds of chemical
components in essential oils. Most of them are in minute quantities, and yet it
is the precise combinations and ratios of elements which render each oil
powerful.
The therapy will include a detailed
consultation which will enable the therapist to discover which blend of oils you
will require for your specific problem. The oils will then be either applied
directly to your body via a relaxing massage or/as well as inhaled via a
diffuser during the treatment.
An example of a few of the oils and their benefits are:-
Basil: a nerve tonic.. for insomnia, congestion and colds.
Clove Oil: an antiseptic...used for toothaches, wounds and respiratory
infections.
Eucalyptus Oil: clears respiratory passages...good for skin infections.
Frankincense: for all catarrh conditions, ulcers, boils, skin care, and
laryngitis.
Geranium: calming effect on the nervous system, kidney stones, skin care.
Lemon: counteracts stomach acidity, powerful bactericide.
Mint: headaches and vomiting, fevers and colds.
Orange oil: sedative, slightly hypnotic, indicated for cardiac spasms.

Crystal Therapy.
Various crystals and minerals are placed on or around a fully clothed person to
induce deep relaxation, release stress and pain, and promote energy balance
within the physical and subtle bodies. The treatment takes around an hour and
crystals may be used singly or in patterns. They are placed on sites of pain, on
acupuncture points or meridians, or on subtle energy vortexes called chakras.
Crystals have the ability to hold and emit energy vibrations. When a crystal is
put in a watch the battery sends a constant charge through the crystal. The
crystal absorbs the charge, and then releases it at such a precise rate it is
used to make the watch keep perfect time. Likewise crystals affect our
electro-magnetic energy fields or subtle bodies which surround and permeate the
physical body. These include the etheric, emotional and mental bodies, which are
collectively called the aura.
Crystals absorb, focus, direct and diffuse our energy fields to enable a
diseased or out of balance body to find it's natural energetic rhythm once
again. The appropriate crystals can be placed on the seven main chakras, which
look like different coloured spinning wheels of subtle energy, running up the
centre of the torso. These link the subtle energy fields of our aura with our
emotions, glands, organs, physical body parts and subtle and physical
circulatory flows. This is why wearing certain crystals such as yellow citrine
may uplift you, rose quartz may help to ease heartache, and amethyst may calm a
busy mind and help you to sleep.
There are many
layouts to choose from, so the therapist either works intuitively or dowses with
a pendulum for the right layout

• Colonic
Irrigation.
Colonic
Irrigation is also know as hydrotherapy of the colon, high Colonic,
entero-lavage, or simply colonic. It is the process of cleansing the
colon by passing several gallons of water through it with the use of
special equipment. It is similar to an enema but treats the whole colon,
not just the lower bowel. This has the effect of flushing out impacted
faecal matter, toxins, mucous and even parasites, that often build up
over the passage of time. It is a procedure that should only be
undertaken by a qualified practitioner.
Origin:
Cleansing the colon with the use of hydrotherapy is not a new concept.
Forms of colonic irrigation have been used successfully for decades to
relieve chronic toxicity and even acute cases of toxaemia.
Alternative
practitioners advise that we probably should have one bowel movement for
every meal that we eat. If not, then we are not eliminating wastes
completely and if input exceeds output, then we will surely suffer the
consequences as some point.
Normally,
several treatments will be required to achieve desired results regarding
the elimination of impacted matter, and restoration of bowel regularity.
Initially only gas and recent faecal matter may be expelled. Impacted
faecal matter can cause an imbalance of the natural organisms that
normally populate the bowel, causing what is known as dysbiosis.
Decomposing matter can cause a toxic condition and may lead to many
health problems, as constipation causes backed up pollution of
the body cells.
Removing
large amounts of toxic matter relieves the client and allows improved
assimilation of the nutrients from foods and can alleviate symptoms of
vitamin and other nutrient deficiencies. Colonic irrigation can help
restore normal peristaltic action to a sluggish bowel, thus reducing the
need for more hydrotherapy treatments over time.
During
colonic irrigation, a small speculum is passed in the patient’s bowel
through the rectum. This is attached to a tube, which leads to a tank or
machine that pumps temperature controlled filtered water into the colon
at a controlled rate (to be controlled by the practitioner). The
temperature of the water should ideally be kept as close to body
temperature as possible. The client will temporarily be filled with
water up to the level of the entire colon. This process, although
sometimes uncomfortable, is not painful. It triggers peristaltic action
and the client will begin to expel the water along with faecal matter
back through the tube. The faecal matter is flushed via a transparent
pipe or viewing tube, so that what is eliminated may be monitored.
During this treatment, the therapist will gently massage the
patient’s abdomen to help dislodge impacted faecal matter. In addition
to massage, sometimes acupressure, reflexology, or lymphatic
drainage techniques may be used to loosen stool deposits and
stimulate the bowel.
Sanitation
is vital to this process. The tubes, robes, pads and of course speculums
that we use are disposable.
After
the Colonic: Since the colon has been
cleared of solid matter, it may take one or two days before it fills up
again and normal bowel movements are resumed. Some water is absorbed
through the colon wall during a colonic, and one may notice an increased
need to urinate for a few hours afterwards. This beneficial effect of
flushing the kidneys may also be enhanced by drinking a few glasses of
water with the juice of half a lemon added to each glass.
A
colonic has a profound cleansing effect on the body and
people feel so good afterwards that they want to double their jogging or
workout time. Caution is advised here, for it can be overdone. Although
light to moderate exercise is good if you are used to it, any strenuous
activity should be avoided 24 hours after treatment.
If
a condition, such as habitual constipation or irritable bowel, has
existed for a while, tiredness may be experienced for a couple of days
after the first colonic.
A
light diet of fruits, vegetables, salads, soups and chicken or fish
should be followed for two or three days, taking care to avoid anything
that causes gas. Avoid drinks with gas, natural or added. Rich heavy
food, flour products, spices and alcohol should also be omitted.
Although
irrigating the colon does not remove all the intestinal bacteria, it is
still helpful to take probiotics to maintain bacterial balance. Live
yoghurt with acidophilus is also advised because it is an active
cleanser that also adds vital force to the colon

Counselling.
What it is and how it can help?
At various times in our lives we all have unhappy periods, and these may
lead to confused and overwhelming feelings. These unhappy times may or
may not be connected to specific problems.
For some people, it helps to talk to someone outside their immediate
family, and if this is the case a professionally trained counsellor may
be the person to help you.
Counselling can help you make sense of your life, resolve specific
problems, help you to make decisions, help you deal with phobia, stress,
anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, addictions, abuse, bereavement,
divorce or separation, conflict with others, relationships, and many
other issues affecting emotional and mental well-being.
The aim of counselling is for the counsellor to help you, and
counsellors do this in many different ways. They may just listen, as
speaking out loud about your problems helps you put your thoughts in
order. The counsellor will not tell you what to do, and you will be left
to make your own choices. Some counsellors, however, may go through a
whole list of options, and examine the pros and cons of each option, so
that you can make better informed decisions. The possibilities are
endless, and will depend upon a combination of your particular problem,
and the style of counselling undertaken by the counsellor.
You should recognize that no amount of counselling will help you deal
with all your problems. Life is not that simple, and there is nobody who
doesn't have some problems. Counselling may not help the problem to go
away, but what counselling can do is to help you cope with the problems
you do have.
Coping with problems is a bit like juggling! Everyone can juggle with
one ball. Most people, with a bit of practice can juggle with two. A few
people can juggle with three, or even more. Whatever your juggling
skills, there comes a point where, if you were tossed an extra ball, you
would drop the lot. That's the type of thing that happens when we reach
the end of our tether. We get one too many problems to cope with, and
end up unable to cope with anything.
Before you embark on a series of counselling sessions, you should ask
yourself what you hope to achieve through counselling, and how will you
know if the counselling has been successful. It may be, that if
counselling helps you deal with the greatest problem, you will then be
in a position to cope with all your remaining problems without outside
professional help.

• Hopi Ear Candling.
• Kinesiology.
Kinesiology is a science which investigates and analyzes human motion. It is a
form of biomechanics. Kinesiology (pronounced kin-easy-ology) uses your body's
bio-feedback system, whereby precision muscle testing is specifically applied to
your own unique and individual physiology - thereby eliminating "guess-work."
Kinesiology uses muscle testing to identify imbalances in the body's structural,
chemical, emotional or other energy, to establish the body's priority healing
needs, and to evaluate energy changes brought about by a broad spectrum of both
manual and non-manual therapeutic procedures.
This technique uses the body's own biofeedback system via muscle testing to
promote health. The aim is to restore balance where there are nutritional
deficiencies and to create wellness at a physical, emotional and spiritual
level.
Applied Kinesiology is a form of chiropractic introduced in 1964. It is a
diagnostic method for determining health status through muscle testing and also
a therapy wherein the practitioner applies light finger-tip massage to pressure
points on the body or head in order to stimulate or relax key muscles.
Nemo-Link a newly introduced therapy also includes a muscle test for diagnosis
then disciplines the brain to assess and restore balance of the body and
skeletal structure.
Clinical Kinesiology was developed by an Alan Beardell 20 years after applied
kinesiology was introduced. Precise manipulations called hand-modes are
performed on the skull or arm muscles to heal musculo-skeletal injuries, sports
injuries, back and spinal pain.

• Metamorphosis.
Rather than continue to focus on the symptoms of our disturbances Metamorphosis
addresses our underlying, unconscious patterns of stress that create imbalance,
disharmony and illness. This allows the person to relax and not have to re-enter
or interpret events of the past. By doing this the unconscious mind is
un-conditioned rather than re-conditioned. This is the beginning of operating
from our own inner guidance rather than from our prenatal and external
influences. This is the freedom we all desire!
Metamorphosis addresses the underlying stress patterns that arrived at
conception via our genetic and karmic patterns. Within the genetic and karmic
patterns is the initial stress pattern of humanity. In working this way we are
creating permanent change, for we are addressing tension at its origin.
Our underlying stress patterns influence how we view and experience life. We are
either in response to life, which is a spontaneous, healthy interaction with
life and all living things or we are in reaction. Reaction to life is expressed
in an array of mental, emotional, physical and behavioural symptoms. We react to
life from our underlying, often unconscious, stress patterns. Because we address
the underlying pattern rather than the symptom, Metamorphosis brings about
permanent change and is helpful to anyone. I have listed symptoms below so that
you can recognize the depth of working in this way. Metamorphosis is truly a
gift to humanity as it assists with all levels of discomfort and dysfunction.
We work on the feet and spine to address the primary patterns behind the
discomfort and dis-ease in ones life. We work on the head to address tension in
relation to thinking. This is often experienced as headaches, analyzing,
worrying, over thinking, can’t stop thinking, unclear thinking or mental
illness. We work on the hands to address our executive ability, the ability to
'do' things as well as handle or cope with our patterns, emotions or life
itself!

• Homeopathy.
Starting a homeopathic treatment
Homeopathy
is an effective and scientific system of healing which assists the
natural tendency of the body to heal itself. It recognises that all
symptoms of ill health are expressions of disharmony within the whole
person and that it is the patient who needs treatment not the disease.
As
a new patient, these ideas may be new to you, but homeopathy has been
established for about 200 years.
What
is homeopathy?
In
1796 a German doctor, Samuel Hahnemann, discovered a different approach
to the cure of the sick which he called homeopathy (from the Greek words
meaning 'similar suffering'). Like Hippocrates two thousand years
earlier he realised that there were two ways of treating ill health, the
way of opposites and the way of similars. Take for example, a case of
insomnia. The way of opposites, (conventional medicine or allopathy), is
to treat this by giving a drug to bring on an artificial sleep. This
frequently involves the use of large or regular doses of drugs which can
sometimes cause side effects or addiction.
The
way of similars, the homeopathic way, is to give the patient a minute
dose of a substance, such as coffee, which in large doses causes
sleeplessness in a healthy person. Perhaps surprisingly this will enable
the patient to sleep naturally.
Homeopathic
remedies cannot cause side effects and you cannot become addicted to
them. This is because only a very minute amount of the active ingredient
is used in a specially prepared form. Your homeopath will give you a
homeopathic medicine or remedy which matches your symptoms as you
experience them. This also takes account of you as a person - your
individual characteristics emotionally as well as physically.
How does it work?
Homeopathic
remedies work by stimulating the body's own healing power. This stimulus
will assist your own system to clear itself of any expressions of
imbalance. The aim is to get you to a level of health so that eventually
you will need infrequent treatment.
What
will your homeopath need to know?
In
order to find the right remedy for you as an individual, your homeopath
will need to know all about you. A detailed understanding of who you
are, along with any complaints and details of how you experience them,
is needed to assess your case correctly. So anything you can tell your
homeopath that is typical of who you are will help this process. Finding
out about your general energy level, your past medical history and the
way you live are also important. Anything you say will be treated in the
strictest confidence. The initial consultation may last an hour or more.
What
will the treatment be like?
Your
homeopath will give you a homeopathic remedy, usually in the form of a
tablet or tablets, occasionally as powders, which should be allowed to
dissolve in your mouth; or you may be given a liquid remedy with
instructions. Do make sure that you understand the instructions before
you leave.
If
you are given homeopathic remedies to take at a later date be sure to
store them in a cool dark place, away from anything with a strong smell.
If you travel try to avoid putting the remedies through the X-ray
scanner.
Please
tell your homeopath about any medicine or supplement that has been
prescribed for you by your doctor or that you take regularly. Also
mention any recent or immediate dental treatment. These may possibly
interfere with your homeopathic prescription.
If
you are taking a homeopathic remedy and you feel that you need to take
additional medication - consult with your homeopath to discuss how this
might affect your homeopathic treatment.
Your homeopath can give first-aid advice, if necessary. If you develop a
cold, headache, or any symptoms that concern you, please discuss them
with your homeopath.
What
will happen once treatment starts?
After
taking your remedy you may notice some changes. Some patients experience
a period of exceptional well being and optimism. Sometimes your symptoms
can appear to get worse for a short time. This is a good sign that the
remedy is taking effect. Sometimes a cold, rash or some form of
discharge may appear as a 'spring cleaning' effect which means your
system is going through a clearing out stage. Similarly, old symptoms
can reappear, usually for a short period. These symptoms will pass, and
must not be treated as they are a very important part of the healing
process. If any response to your treatment concerns you, do contact your
homeopath as soon as you can, as it is important to know what happens as
treatment progresses. You might also want to make notes of any changes
and take them with you to discuss at your next appointment.
How
long does treatment take?
This
depends very much on what sort of illness you have, as well as the other
individual characteristics of your case. So it is not realistic for your
homeopath to assess this until it can be seen how you respond to the
remedies prescribed over some time. It is possible to say that a slowly
developing complaint, or one that has been experienced for some years,
will not disappear immediately although there may be a response and some
improvement quite soon. Other acute complaints may get better more
quickly.
Homeopathy
cures from the inside, and often outer symptoms such as a skin
complaint, are the last to clear. Be patient! In the long term it is
much better for you to be cured of both the cause of your illness and
its symptoms, rather than merely relieving or suppressing the symptoms.
Remember that every case is different, and no two patients are alike.
If
you wish to discontinue your treatment for any reason, your homeopath
will talk things over with you.
Is
there any advice about diet and lifestyle?
A
homeopath will ask you about your usual diet and lifestyle, and may
suggest changes, especially if it seems that this is contributing to
your illness. Of course, a good basic diet is necessary for good health,
with less sugars, fats, alcohol and refined foods. There is an
increasing awareness of the benefits of foods free from artificial
colourings, preservatives and flavourings. Whole foods and organic
foods, free from chemical pesticides and fertilisers, are also
increasingly available.
What
about seeing a GP?
We
recommend that you should maintain your relationship with your GP. Your
GP will be able to arrange any tests or X-rays you may need. Homeopathy
has an alternative philosophy but by working in this way with your GP
the two systems of health care can provide a complementary service.

• Reflexology.
Whilst the art of reflexology dates back to Ancient Egypt, India and China, it
wasn’t until 1913 that Dr William Fitzgerald introduced this therapy to the West
as ‘zone therapy’. He noted that reflex areas on the feet and hands were linked
to other areas and organs of the body within the same zone.
In the 1930’s Eunice Ingham further developed this zone theory into what is now
known as reflexology. She observed that congestion or tension in any part of the
foot is mirrored in the corresponding part of the body.
Reflexology is a complementary therapy, which works on the feet to help heal the
whole person not just the prevailing symptoms.
Reflexology is suitable for all ages and may bring relief from a wide range of
acute and chronic conditions. After you have completed a course of reflexology
treatment for a specific condition, many people find it beneficial to continue
with regular treatments in order to maintain health and well-being.
While many people use reflexology as a way of relaxing the mind and body and
counteracting stress, at the same time many doctors, consultants and other
health care professionals recognise reflexology as a well established, respected
and effective therapy. With ever increasing levels of stress, it is important
people take more responsibility for their own health care needs. Reflexology
helps us to cope on a physical, mental and emotional level thereby encouraging
us to heal and maintain health in all areas of our lives.

• Reiki.
Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a method of natural healing based on the
application of Universal Life Force Energy (the name literally means Universal
Life Force Energy).
Reiki is one of the more widely known forms of energy healing. Energy Healing
involves direct application of Chi for the purpose of strengthening the clients
energy system (aura). Chi is the term used by the Chinese mystics and martial
artists for the underlying force of which the Universe is made of.
The therapy
consists of the client lying fully clothed on a bed and the therapist
placing there hands on or above various parts of the body. The warmth of
the therapists hands and the channelling of the Reiki energy assists the
client's experience of a deep feeling of relaxation.
Each healing
session is individual dependant on the needs of the client, some people
experience immediate relief from their problems whilst many gain relief
in the coming days, whilst a few don't outwardly feel any immediate
benefit. However Reiki works on every level mind, body and spirit.
Therefore although they may not feel the benefit physically they can
feel assured that the Reiki healing energy has gone to where it's most
needed whether it be on the emotional or spiritual level. This in turn
facilitates the clients own natural ability to heal themselves.
Mystics in all
cultures have talked about the physical universe being made of an underlying
form of something, much as modern physics research, quantum physics, is now coming to understand
the Universe is made of energy which is subject to (or affected by) thought.
Just as modern physics says this energy is affected by thought the mystics also
say this underlying form is affected by thought, going so far as to claim we
create our own reality from our thinking and the thoughts we share between each
of us every day.
